01 / Motherland Reminiscence
From the artist.
Benin and Gabon are both home to beautiful coastlines. One of the places that stayed with me is Grand-Popo in Benin, with its palm and coconut trees stretching along the coast. Longing is probably my favorite painting. The fisherman against the setting sun creates a moment of stillness, warmth and comfort. For me, it is about memory, distance and the feeling of belonging to somewhere that remains within you, even when you are far away. Its deepest meanings are ones I have chosen to reserve for its future owner.
